On-site Field Services
We understand that downtime is costly. Our on-site field service team travels to your facility to keep your microwave systems running at peak performance. Services we offer in the field include:
Preventive Maintenance & Cleaning
We perform thorough cleaning of microwave applicators and generators, removing debris and ensuring cooling systems and waveguides are clear. Regular maintenance helps prevent unexpected failures.
Repair & Troubleshooting
If your microwave oven or generator is down or underperforming, our technicians will diagnose the issue on-site and replace faulty components (magnetrons, transformers, fuses, etc.) to restore operation quickly. We carry common replacement parts to minimize wait times.
Calibration & Testing
We calibrate microwave generators and systems on-site to ensure they are delivering the specified power and operating within proper parameters. All microwave generators are thoroughly inspected for signs of component wear, overheating, or tuning issues, and then adjusted for optimal performance.
Modifications & Upgrades
For certain projects, we can implement system modifications at your facility. This may include installing upgraded magnetron tubes, adding improved cooling systems, or updating control circuitry and safety interlocks. We handle systems in both standard industrial microwave frequency bands (915 MHz and 2450 MHz) and at power levels ranging from 500 watts to 120 kW. Our ability to perform many upgrades on-site means you get improved capabilities with minimal disruption to your production.

Custom Generator Manufacturing
We design and build custom microwave power generators in 1.25 kW, 3.0 kW, and 6.0 kW output configurations (2450 MHz). These MES-built generators are modern, efficient replacements for older units, built with readily available components for ease of maintenance. If you need a new microwave source for your system or a replacement for an obsolete generator, we can supply a unit tailored to your requirements, with full controls and metering as needed.
Refurbishment & Upgrades
Refurbishing aging microwave ovens and systems is one of our core specialties. Customers send us industrial microwave ovens (conveyorized or batch systems) that are failing or outdated, and we return them in like-new condition. We handle everything from stripping out old, faulty components to redesigning the electrical and microwave circuitry with modern parts. For example, we’ve upgraded a 1980s-era 6 kW oven to 12 kW output by installing two refurbished 6 kW magnetron generators and modern controls. We’ve completely overhauled multi-generator systems (10+ kW) that were slated for scrap, giving them a second life with increased power and efficiency. Typical upgrades include new power supplies, updated magnetrons, custom waveguide runs, new conveyor drives and belts, enhanced safety interlocks, and digital controls. The end results are “basically a new system” with higher throughput, improved reliability, and significant cost savings compared to buying new equipment.
Prototype Development & Custom Engineering
Have a unique process or product that might benefit from microwave heating? MES can help with application development. In our facility, we can perform product testing for receptivity to microwave energy – in other words, we’ll test your materials or product samples in a controlled microwave environment to see how they heat, cure, dry, or vulcanize. Based on results, we can then design prototypes or pilot-scale microwave applicators tailored to your product. Our in-house prototype machine shop can fabricate custom parts and test fixtures, enabling rapid iteration of designs. From concept to working prototype, we assist clients in developing new microwave-based processes.
Waveguide Fabrication & Testing
Efficient power transmission from generator to applicator is critical in microwave systems. MES offers custom waveguide components design and testing. We fabricate waveguide sections, bends, adapters, and other passive components (using materials like aluminum, brass, copper, or stainless steel) covering standard waveguide sizes WR-284 through WR-975. Every custom waveguide or component we build is tested at 2450 MHz (up to 6 kW power) to ensure low loss and safe operation at high power. Whether you need a replacement section or a completely new waveguide layout for a reconfigured system, we can provide precision-made components.
Calibration & Testing
In our lab, we also test and calibrate microwave generators and sub-assemblies that are sent to us. After repairs or modifications, we run generators at full power, sometimes for hours (burn-in testing), to verify stability and performance. We can characterize magnetron output, measure power levels, and ensure all safety features function properly before shipping the unit back to you. Our test services give you confidence that refurbished or repaired components will perform reliably once re-installed.
Technical Support & Consulting
MES is committed to supporting our customers beyond the shop floor. We offer phone troubleshooting and technical assistance to help your maintenance staff diagnose minor issues or optimize system settings. Often, our experts can guide you to a solution over the phone, saving time and getting your system back online. We also provide consulting on microwave system design, process improvement, and maintenance best practices. Service Guarantees and Support
No matter the service, quality and safety are non-negotiable for MES. Every serviced or refurbished unit undergoes comprehensive testing. We ensure that microwave leakage is within safe limits, thermal systems are functioning, and control circuits and interlocks are verified. We stand by our work with a 1-year warranty on parts and labor for refurbished systems and custom-built equipment. We keep detailed documentation of all modifications and services performed. When we deliver a refurbished system or custom generator, you receive complete schematics, parts lists, and test results. This documentation can be invaluable for your maintenance teams and for regulatory compliance.
